Super Bowl Champ Russell Wilson Won’t Take Fox News Host’s Bait To Slam First Lady

cavuto wilsonedited

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson appeared on Your World with Neil Cavuto Monday to discuss his work with the United Way. During his conversation with host Neil Cavuto, Wilson would not allow himself to be used as a political pawn by the Fox News anchor and refused to play along with Cavuto’s attempt to get Wilson to criticize the First Lady. Cavuto tried to compare Wilson’s work with the United Way in assisting with childhood hunger with Michelle Obama’s initiative to end childhood obesity. Cavuto claimed that the First Lady has failed so far to get kids to eat healthier, likely due to her being a “food police mommy.” He wanted to know what Wilson was doing that was working and if he could provide some pointers to Mrs. Obama.

Below is video of the exchange, courtesy of Fox News:

CAVUTO: Well, Russell, what are we doing wrong then as a nation though with this urging them to eat healthy or set up these school lunch programs where they’re urged to eat healthy. I mean, Michelle Obama’s trying. Many argue that she’s getting to be too much of a food police mommy. Be that as it may, whatever she’s doing isn’t working and I’m wondering what you’re doing that is working. What’s the difference?

WILSON: Well, the first lady, I have so much respect for her. I was able to meet her and the President, obviously, you know when we went to the Super Bowl, we won the Super Bowl and got to go to the White House. You know, I think at the end of the day, you know the kids, it’s tough to eat healthy. You know, I remember when I was a little kid I was always struggling trying to eat healthy.

Everything with Fox News has to be filtered through a prism of Obama-hate so that it meets the approval of its old, white angry base of viewers that are still apoplectic over the country electing a black man, twice, to be President of the United States. In this instance, even though this was supposed to be a feel-good piece about a pro athlete getting involved with charity and helping out his community, Cavuto had to find a way to shoe-horn criticism about the Obamas. Unfortunately for Fox News, Wilson wasn’t the least bit interested in playing their game.

It used to be that First Ladies were generally left alone by the press. At the very least, they weren’t attacked and denigrated at the level that we’ve seen occur with Mrs. Obama. Even Hillary Clinton, who received some flak early in her husband’s first term due to concerns that she was too involved politically, ended up garnering tons of sympathy by the end of the decade due to Bill’s affair with Monica Lewinsky. The thing is, wanting kids to eat healthier and not be obese at a young age should be generally noncontroversial. However, since she is Michelle Obama, conservatives have to go crazy and oppose anything she is publicly supports or endorses.

As for Wilson, all he wanted to to do was get the word out about his cause. Thankfully, he was able to easily ignore Cavuto’s attempts to have him make a public condemnation of the First Lady and get his message across. Congrats to Wilson for his charity work. I doubt we’ll see you make another appearance on Fox News.

Why does race have to be a part of this article? This is exactly how the leaders of this world want things to happen, they want to push us further apart by using racial denegration. This is a sports article and yes I agree fox news had no need to mention anything political about it, but to sit there and racially speak about white people like that in the context of a SPORTS article is absolutely bullshit. Oh and also just so you know, check the polls, no one is mad Obama is black, they are mad because he’s a SHITTY president.

Shitty president? He may have been the best the US ever had if he had a congress who actually did some work like they were elected to do. How can a man of vision who wants a raise in minimum wages, equal pay for equal work, help for our veterans, help for the unemployed be a shitty president. The only shitty people in the government are the do nothing scandal mongering, Republicans

    • Hawksfan2112   Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 at 1:49 am

There has never been a president that has received as much obstruction for his policies. From day one the GOP and their propaganda machine FOX ‘news’ has been out to stop any and all legislation he has put through. They wanted his presidency to fail right out of the gate. Filibusters, shut downs, pushing to repeal the ACA 50+ times (what do you suppose that cost the tax payers) even after the SCOTUS ruled it legal. No compromise, no quarter, and rarely even any honest dialogue. Doesn’t matter what the issue has been, they have been against it, simply because it was Obama. Now if you want to tell yourself this has nothing to do with race go right ahead. Yup, go right ahead and drink the cool-aid the GOP, the Tea Party, and FOX ‘news’ is serving. Because you are just that naive and just that much of a sheep following the shepherds that are leading you off the cliff.

Imagine what he would be able to accomplish with a functioning Congress. It’s amazing he was able to pass the Affordable Care Act. Given the many issues he has had to deal with in poor economic times, of course people are going to be overly critical. We are an impatient society and we vote with how the times are going, so the favorability polls are a poor mark of presidential performance. My feeling his historians will rank him among the top of the middle group.

And Cavuto’s attempts to use Russell Wilson’s mission to help malnourished children in order to name-call and insult the First Lady and her efforts get our nation’s children to live healthier lifestyles is disgusting. Shameless. It was completely unnecessary. Why can’t he just let Wilson get his important message out and bring negativity into the picture? It must be miserable being so negative all of the time. I’m sure he’s a ton of fun at parties.

If you were to ask any person who looks down on Obama if it is about race, you would not find one person who would be willing to speak honestly. It is about race and has everything to do with race. You try to make it sound as if he is a bad president, in addition to being the only bad president our country has ever had. Shall we go down the list and review the ethnicity of each and every bad president? If there were that many bad Black presidents, the conservatives would start a civil war. It’s so obvious that you cannot handle the idea that a Black man could possibly be president of our country. Nah, it’s not about race, he’s just doing a shitty job. Our country is never again going to be the narrow and shallow society of the past. We are long past that. In 75 years, scholars will say that never in the history of our country has a president had to endure so many that were willing to hurt our own country as a result of their hate, just because the president happened to be Black.

I pity people like you, blind with rage that Obama is still black.

Russell Wilson is pure class, and the sexiest man in football. Neil Cavuto is a no-talent weasel who would be dropped from any “normal” network.

  4. Anonymous2   Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 at 12:29 am

@ Anonymous…Newsflash! We’ve already had SHIT*Y presidents. The ones who slept with underage children and had out of wedlock babies with them. The ones on our money and some of the ones whose faces are carved in mountains and are on our money and who praise is lavished on all the time. Forget that they “owned” people and aided in the beatings, killings, rapes, selling and splitting apart families and on and on. Yes, they were way better than President Obama…NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Amy Spanne   Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 at 12:34 am

Both Bush First Ladies pushed literacy and we still have kids who can’t read. I guess they failed too!

  6. Matthew   Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 at 12:38 am

    Go Hawks!

  7. Hawksfan2112   Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 at 1:42 am

Way to go Russell! Don’t let “fakes news” drag you down to their level. What you do is awesome, inspiring, and up lifting! You’re a true role model! Keep it up!

  8. Colleen   Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 at 2:26 am

Fox News= one conservative TV cable news
CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN,MSNBC, others = many liberal news channels
Why dont you not watch Fox, or faux or whatever silly name you want to call it. Neil Cavuto is on a money show he really doesnt get into that much politics. Im from WA state and we love Russell Wilson and our Hawks. Hes just a nice guy period. So do your own research, see what kids you know think of the new mandates on school lunches, from what Ive seen on twitter posts they arent happy and arent eating it.

  9. Christopher Mobley   Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 at 2:29 am

He faced a tougher pass rush in the Super Bowl than this. Another touchdown for Russell Wilson! I liked him at Wisconsin. I like him now except when he’s kicking the New Orleans Saints’s butt.

This writer is a self proclaimed liberal… Policususa Facebook description:

“PoliticusUSA was founded in February of 2008 by Jason Easley. Jason had a vision of a liberal and independent news site which would offer a mix of politics and opinion in an unfiltered environment, not beholden to any specific political or media agenda. PoliticusUSA is by design”

“Jason noticed that much like in the world of politics, the sports media had become corporatized. He had noticed that the same corporate giants who were spending billions of dollars to obtain rights fees to cover sports were also the same were also the same ones covering the news. This, of course, seemed to create a total conflict of interest. That was the impetus behind Politicus Sports. The need for a different kind of sports coverage. Unrestrained sports writing without the corporate edicts…the Anti-ESPN.”

So he is predestine to give his opinion on Fox and his slant. There didn’t seem to me to be anything political to me.

“Everything with Fox News has to be filtered through a prism of Obama-hate …”

As opposed to MSNBC, NBC, CBS ABC etc. filtering everything through Bush hate, and Christian hate, and America hate, and Constitution hate.

Check the polls. Most Americans can’t stand Obama anymore, I guess We are all racists now. And if they all loved him so much then why are all experts expecting the GOP to take control of the Senate along with increasing the lead in the house?

Obama has been the greatest gift to conservatives since Jimmy Carter.

I, in good consciousness, could never support a democrat. I just can’t bring myself to vote for the party that established the KKK, fought to keep slavery and fought to stop the civil rights bill.

    • Grafyter   Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 at 2:39 pm

If you had ever read any history, you would know that the democratic party of this century is the Republican party of the century in which those incidents occurred. And if you try to claim that the Republicans of today are in any way related to the Republicans of Lincoln, he will surely come back to life and rip your heart out. The parties exchanged ideologies in the early 1960’s. As the democratic party became the party of moderation, the Dixiecrats all changed sides to disocciate themselves from the liberals taking over the democratic party.

  12. Gman   Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 at 3:21 am

By the way, Wilson is a devout Christian with very conservative values and beliefs. So now you all can hate him as well.

  13. Neal   Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 at 3:50 am

Leave it to Fox News to try and get a well respected Black man to speak out against the First Lady. How much lower can you get? The irony is that a Black athlete, Russell Wilson, reflected much more intelligence even without knowing the questions, than the really smart people that Fox News hires who already had this underhanded approach planned before the interview even began. Why does Fox News continue to embarrass themselves, and why do they continue to get away with reporting that lacks integrity? Even ESPN, a sports network reflects more character and integrity than Fox News. They will not even tolerate generic remarks from their news anchors yet Fox News seems to encourage their news team to specifically show disrespect towards the First Lady of our country. They have hit the bottom of the barrel. Can they sink any lower?

That’s not entirely true. The Lincoln Museum in Springfield has an exhibit featuring politcal articles written during the time period. There’s a bunch that attack Mary Todd.

What part of the comments/question by Neil Cavuto are wrong. Seems to me he’s being attacked not because what he said was incorrect but he had the audacity to acknowledge that the programs to fight childhood obesity–including the one from the First Lady–aren’t working.

Shame on Cavuto for calling out that the emperor has no clothes.

    • Grafyter   Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 at 2:43 pm

Funny Cavuto didn’t ask Russel how he felt about corporations pushing their processed foods and calorie high snacks on
kids. I wonder how that affects childhood obesity.

  18. Jessie A Bigley   Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 at 9:51 am

The First Lady is trying to reach parents, that is were eating habit start. Parents need to step up and be parents, mom and dad need to see to it that children are eating healthy and not sitting on the couch all day playing videos. Parents stop buying fast food, cook meals at home and get the kids off the couch and away from the TV, do you job as a parent and teach you children how to live a healthy life style.

  19. Dustin Rowland   Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 at 10:25 am

Liberals have drank way more Kool-aid than any conservative buying into this racist crap. I could give a Damn what color he is. I don’t know why you people…oh sorry that was racist. You liberals…think that the GOP and the Democrats not seeing eye to eye is just a brand new thing that only started when we got a black man in office. George W was a terrible president. I can admit that even with my conservative outlook. Democrats pulled absolutely no punches in dragging his name through the mud every chance they got. I can’t support Obama because he’s a communist. So is Hillary. I don’t care about his race whatsoever. If Russell Wilson ran forpPresident I’d vote for him. I’m not a racist. I am a Niners fan. Mind = Blown

We didnt pull punches with Bush because he was an idiot of a puppet president controlled by Cheney the puppet master. As far as Communists go, Putin was one and the Republicans seem to adore him.
Obama and Clinton are about as Communist as Ted Cruz….born in a communist country, raised in a socialist one.

  22. LDL   Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 at 12:37 pm

The fact that Obama is a lousy president has nothing to do with his color. It has to do with his foreign policy, his reckless financial policies and his constant need to be “cool.” you think that commenting on the first lady is a cheap shot?? Thinking Obama’s lagging popularity with the American population is because of his color is a cheap shot and a lazy excuse.

  24. Billy Clinton   Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 at 4:23 pm

When Obama was elected it was the first time the democrats had a majority in both parties since 1995. Fox, MSNBC, CNN, Republicans and Democrats – they are all on the same team. They want you to be divided into parties so you won’t really see what is happening. Each party is corrupt. Believe it or not, Clinton was way more conservative than Bush. Each party moves us further and further into socialism in their own special way. Look at the Patriot Act, of course Republicans were all for that. The Patriot Act is the most dangerous threat to our constitutional liberties than any other document. And Obama has extended it and expanded it. Wake up and smell the roses.

Hey, Neil, how’s Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No” campaign working out? What about Laura Bush’s work to get kids reading? Yeah, I thought so. HypoChristian.

Most of you who are so pro obama are missing more than a few screws. First of all i would have to say u all have little to no common sense. 99% of us obama haters, and im not a conservative i am a libertarian. Are not driven by race. We are driven by the most far left leaning president in the history of tge us forcing his socialistic agenda down our throats, when 49 % of the country didnt vote for him. Hes horrid and yes the idea of helping out homeless and others thru social programs is great but it doesnt work because we cant afford it. Dumb libs

  27. Joe Schmoh   Thursday, August 14th, 2014 at 1:16 am

We truly have a whole Electorate of complete idiots. (That’s “voters” for those democrats out there) Voters don’t at have a REAL clue as to: who they vote for or what they “really know” about issues.
You people defending Obama have no f*in brains. When you learn about our three branches of government, limit of powers and BASIC civics, THEN we can have conversation. Until then, don’t vote again.
Which comes to my second point, don’t trust the Main stream media anymore. They have agendas and most believe everything that they say.
Here’s a great example; “There has never been a president that has received as much obstruction for his policies.” Depends on the context, but here is how I take it, according to the heathcare law as mentioned. This is utter MORONIC. Do you realize that both Houses (US Senate and the US House of Reps) were controlled by the Democratic Party in the years 2007-2011? Obstruction is a LIE.
