With the main card event soaking up the spotlight, it’s easy to overlook the other battles competing for “fight of the night”. Ricardo Lamas vs. Max Holloway has not receiving much attention, but it could easily be the most entertaining match-up of the evening. Both fighters have a lot of knockout power and they like to keep it on the feet. It’s hard to make UFC 199 predictions for this fight, but I’m putting my money on Holloway.
Both men have yet to enter the Octagon this year. They’re each stars on the rise, and the winner will be edging closer to a shot at the highly contested belt. Since Holloway lost to Conor McGregor, he has gone on an eight-win streak and looks like a completely different fighter. At 24 years old, Holloway is one of the youngest fighters and he has time to improve even further. The Hawaiian last fight was against Jeremy Stephens was in December at UFC 194; he won that contest via decision, dominating Stephens.
Holloway is one of the most active fighters in the UFC. He fought four times in 2012 and 2014. Last year he beat another four opponents, including a victory against Cub Swanson by submission. Recently, Holloway’s talked about moving up in weight class if he can get a shot at a big money fight. It would be great to see Holloway vs. McGregor 2 at 170lb.
Lamas should not be underestimated, he’s one of the top fighters in the division and has a record to back it up. In his last outing in the Octagon, he fought Diego Sanchez and won by a unanimous decision.
Lamas had fought for the belt before back in 2014 when he lost to Jose Aldo. At 33 years old, he can not afford another loss if he wants one more shot at the belt. Most UFC expert fight picks are choosing Holloway, but as we have seen in the last few main events, the underdogs often win.
The two main card events are going to have a lot of free bets and large wagers placed on them. Rockhold is the favorite due to his victory six months ago. In the second main card event, Cruz will be defending his title for the first time since winning after his injuries. It will be the last time Faber gets a chance to win the belt, but he will need to take it to the ground to have any chance.
My free bets advice for UFC 199 is for Faber by way of rear naked choke in the third round.
