Bare Knuckle Boxer Says VICE Tricked Him

VICE News recently filmed a feature about bare knuckle boxing in the UK. They released a full 27 minute, and aired a shorter version on their Facebook page during the Mayweather-McGregor fight.

It’s a great piece about the bare knuckle boxing subculture. The film crew spends most of the film following around underground fighter James “Gypsy Boy” McCrory. Unfortunately, it now appears that McCrory feels he was cheated by the filmmakers.
McCrory himself left several commented on VICE’s Facebook page, saying:
“It’s a pity Vice didn’t pay me and my family 1 penny and they’ve made hundreds 0f thousands off me and my name… They made me sign a disclaimer… (I thought) that was just to use on internet, I didn’t agree for it to be on TV like it has… I would love it if everyone boycotted Vice”
Outside of boxing, McCrory is a family man with a job. In 2014, he talked to reporters for the ChronicleLive:

“I’m getting paid £400 a fight and getting black eyes, fractured eye sockets and broken hands. It’s not worth taking the time off work to justify going to the fights… It was OK when I was on my own, but I’ve got a family to think of now.”

The Vice doc is definitely worth checking out, but it’s sad that such a fascinating piece is now marred by bad blood.
