Several sources are reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles have reached a deal with former Denver Broncos quarterback and current ESPN analyst Tim Tebow. The former Heisman Trophy winner worked out for the team last month and the two parties apparently agreed on the framework of a deal at that time. Tebow is flying into Philadelphia to sign the new contract Monday so he can be part of the team’s offseason workout program.
The 27-year-old QB hasn’t played a snap in the NFL since 2012 and the last time he was on a roster was when the New England Patriots cut him at the end of training camp in 2013. He was the talk of the nation for a while in late 2011 and early 2012 when he was installed as the Broncos starting quarterback, leading them to a division crown and a playoff victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers. During that time, ESPN became Tebow TV, as nearly all of the Worldwide Leaders coverage centered on the devout Christian.
With Tebow in the fold, the Eagles now have four quarterbacks under contract. Head coach and acting general manager Chip Kelly traded for oft-injured Sam Bradford last month, giving up last year’s starter Nick Foles and a conditional 2nd-round pick to the St. Louis Rams. The Eagles also have Tebow’s former teammate with the New York Jets, Marck Sanchez, under contract as well as Matt Barkley. It appears Philly was trying to trade Barkley over the past few weeks to free up space for Tebow but didn’t like any of the offers.
Obviously, once news of Tebow’s signing hit, Twitter went bonkers.
Jay Glazer just scooped ESPN on ESPN employee Tim Tebow signing with the Eagles. Not bad.

Tim Tebow returns to the NFL on a Sunday? That’s the most Jesus thing of all time.

I admit I am “that guy.” I think Tim Tebow can be a starting QB in the NFL and I think he is an authentic good dude. I’m rooting for him.

Eagles have signed Tim Tebow. Looks like Chip Kelly has celebrated 4/20 a day early.

People need to stop hating on Tim Tebow. The NFL would be better off if the majority of players acted like Tebow off the field. Smh.

The Tim Tebow deal is for one year, and is expected to be signed tomorrow. Get your news choppers ready, Philly.

Atheists: “you think one God created everything on earth?” Christians: “you think Tim Tebow earned an NFL contract?”

And, of course, Tebow’s forever champion had to chime in with a hot take.
Tim Tebow was just signed by the one NFL coach who will give him a real chance to do what he does best. Thank you, Chip Kelly.

Kelly has already had a crazy offseason, with trading away LeSean McCoy, bringing in Bradford and signing DeMarco Murray and Ryan Matthews. He now is basically telling the city of Philadelphia and anyone who covers the NFL that he simply doesn’t care what anyone thinks, he’s doing things his way.
